Words – an introduction.

Language enthralls me.

I can’t help it, there’s something about a well-turned phrase that resonates with something deep within me, echoing for hours.

I breathe poetry and quotations from people better linguistically equipped than I. I spend a lot of time pondering the etymology of words & the origin of phrases. I mull over imagined conversations in my head incessantly. Thinking about how to lingually define identities distracts me constantly: ‘queer’ or ‘gay’ or ‘lesbian’? When tipsy I enjoy cornering people and talking about language reclamation and the comparative etymologies of ‘vagina’ and ‘cunt’. I absorb my peoples’ speech patterns without realising, which can be rather embarrassing.

I basically manage to fulfil the stereotypes of a queer feminist English and French student with every fibre of my being.

This blog is a place for me to share varying bits of language/texts that have made me think, that I have made and other insights into the mess that is my life.

I’m Zoe Jackson, and welcome to my internet space.
